The National Symphonic Orchestra of the RAI, with the extraordinary participation of Paolo Fresu, will play music by Gershwin.
The orchestra’s origin dates back to 1931, when the first symphonic group of the Italian Radio-phonic organization was founded in Turin. Whereas, the orchestra in Cagliari, came into being, in 1994. Its first public concerts were directed by Georges Prêtre and Giuseppe Sinopoli, and during the years instrumentalists of quality have always been added to the original band. The orchestra frequently plays abroad, and offers numerous pieces for chamber music. CD’s and DVD’s are often obtained, and adapted from its live concerts. Therefore, it is a very classical formation, but also versatile, ductile in its kind. The orchestra, and the maestro Wayne Marshall, have betted together, that owing to their eagerness, they will offer Sardinia and the guests of the Prix, a concert full of enthusiasm and flavour, thanks to the presence of Paolo Fresu.
Fresu, was born in Sardinia in 1961. At the age of eleven he was already playing in the village band of Berchidda, his native town. In 1980, he discovered Jazz, and from then onwards, with a real sense of commitment, has dedicated himself to the study of his passion. His application resulted in a crescendo of concerts, of quality performances, with an outcome of an always more numerous public. He plays in Italy and abroad. At present, the Fresu discography boasts of 280 records, and 2,500 concerts. He teaches, plays for the theatre, accompanies poetry, plays, and book readings.
