Extraordinary General Assembly of the Prix Italia

The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Prix Italia will be held next February 2nd, 2009, in Rome, RAI Sporting Club, Viale Tor di Quinto 64. The Assembly will begin at 9:30.

60TH EDITION PRIX ITALIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Prix Italia General Assembly was held on Saturday September 20th in Cagliari notifying the success achieved for the 60th edition.

The City of Turin will be a candidate for the 61st edition of the Prix Italia.


Prix Italia will celebrate its 60th anniversary with an exceptional orchestra. On the 16th of September 2008, at 19:00pm, at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari
 

The National Symphonic Orchestra of the RAI, with the extraordinary participation of Paolo Fresu, will play music by Gershwin.
The orchestra’s origin dates back to 1931, when the first symphonic group of the Italian Radio-phonic organization was founded in Turin. Whereas, the orchestra in Cagliari, came into being, in 1994. Its first public concerts were directed by Georges Prêtre and Giuseppe Sinopoli, and during the years instrumentalists of quality have always been added to the original band. The orchestra frequently plays abroad, and offers numerous pieces for chamber music. CD’s and DVD’s are often obtained, and adapted from its live concerts. Therefore, it is a very classical formation, but also versatile, ductile in its kind. The orchestra, and the maestro Wayne Marshall, have betted together, that owing to their eagerness, they will offer Sardinia and the guests of the Prix, a concert full of enthusiasm and flavour, thanks to the presence of Paolo Fresu.

Fresu, was born in Sardinia in 1961. At the age of eleven he was already playing in the village band of Berchidda, his native town. In 1980, he discovered Jazz, and from then onwards, with a real sense of commitment, has dedicated himself to the study of his passion. His application resulted in a crescendo of concerts, of quality performances, with an outcome of an always more numerous public. He plays in Italy and abroad. At present, the Fresu discography boasts of 280 records, and 2,500 concerts. He teaches, plays for the theatre, accompanies poetry, plays, and book readings. Paolo Fresu is in Cagliari on the 16th of September for all of you!


Robert Rabinovith, President of Prix Italia, moderator of the OPENING SESSION
  Robert Rabinovitch, recent President and CEO of the Canadian television CBC, is the personality with the highest position that Prix Italia has ever had as President of Prix Italia. Robert Rabinovitch will moderate the Opening Session of the 60th edition, on the theme: THE FUTURE PRESENT OF MEDIA. The evolution of the role that communication has in the multicultural and global world. Representatives of BBC (United Kingdom), EBU (Switzerland), MIT-Mobile Experience Laboratory (USA), Prasar Bharati (India), RAI (Italia) will participate to the debate.
Appointment in Cagliari, on Tuesday 16th September, at 16:00 pm in the Conference Room A, of the IchnusaTerminal Cruising Quay.

The Public Debate of the Juries will be moderated by Caroline Thomson, COO of BBC
 

The Public Debate of the Juries will be held on Friday 19th September at 9:30 am in the Conference Room A of the Ichnusa Terminal Cruising Quay, a particularly special moment for the integrity of the Prix and for the constant enrichment of International criterion on selecting and judging the works.

This year the jurors of the competition are about 93 : 53 in the Tv Juries, 35 in the Radio Juries and 5 in the Web Jury. The event, opened to all delegates of Prix Italia, will be moderated by Caroline Thomson, Chief Operation Officer of BBC, recent President of Prix Italia.


Press conference on July 14th 2008
The press conference presenting the 60th edition of Prix Italia was held on Monday 14th of July, at Rai headquarters, Viale Mazzini. Prix Italia will take place in Cagliari from the 14th to the 20th of September.

The press conference was opened by Claudio Petruccioli, President of Rai. Then Marcella Sansoni, Secretary General of Prix Italia, who by the way of illustration quoted the content of the event, Barbara Scaramucci, Director of Rai Teche, Paolo Morawski, Executive Producer of Prix Italia, Romano Cannas, Director of Rai headquarters in Sardinia.

The authorities, who were present from Cagliari were represented by Emilio Floris, Mayor of Cagliari, and Luisa Anna Depau, Councillor to Tourism of the Independent Region of Sardinia.


Prasar Bharati at the 60th edition of the Prix Italia
At the 60th edition of the Prix Italia, we will have the pleasure to include again, among the members, Prasar Bharati, Broadcasting Corporation of India, already member of the Prix, but not participating for a few years. The Broadcaster of the Indian Public Service Prasar Bharati, is formed by the union of Doordarshan Television and All India Radio.

As announced in the Extraordinary General Assembly in Febuary, the re-entry of broadcasters already once members, and the entries of the new International audiovisual protagonists, fit into the project of globalization of Prix Italia, in occasion of its 60th anniversary.

The site of the Prix Italia 2008
The 60th edition of the Prix Italia, that will take place from the 14th to the 20th of September, will be held at the Cruise Terminal of the Quay Ichnusa, (Ichnusa is the ancient Greek name of Sardinia), situated in the Port of the city.

The structure is shaped and built resembling a large ship: constructed in wood, structural and steel clad, with a canvas covering. It is in the Port Complex of Cagliari, close to the heart of the City.

The Port of Cagliari is in a historical spot right in the middle of the Mediterranean. It has been a strategical commercial junction for over 2.500 years. Founded by the Phoenicians, the Port preserves the richness of traditions and experiences, that currently directs its aim, on quality, integration and innovation.

Most of the activities of the Prix will take place in the interior of the Cruise Terminal of the Quay Ichnusa: the works of the Jury; the on-demand screenings of the programmes in competition; the offices of the Secretariat and the various rooms where programmed events will be held.


Extraordinary General Assembly 2008
 

The Extraordinary General Assembly of Prix Italia took place in Rome, at the Rai Sporting Club, on Friday 15th of February. The meeting was chaired by the outgoing President, Caroline Thomson and by the incoming Secretary General, Marcella.Sansoni. Thirty four representatives of broadcasters-members and some International observers. The Assembly was opened by an introduction of the Rai Director General, Claudio Cappon, and closed by an intervention of the President of the Rai, Claudio Petruccioli.


Nomination of the Prix Italia President
 

During the meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Prix Italia, that took place in Rome, at the Rai Sporting Club, on Friday 15th of February, the nomination of the new President of the Prix Italia, Robert Rabinovitch, ex President and CEO, and now Special Board Appointments of the Canadian Television CBC/SRC, was approved. Caroline Thomson, Chief Operating Officer of the BBC, outgoing President of Prix Italia accepted the role of Honorary President, requested by the Assembly.


New Entries
 

The 60th edition of the Prix Italia will be held in Cagliari, Sardinia, from the 14th to the 20th September 2008. The 60th anniversary of the festival will be enriched by new International participants. The Central China Television, Chinese public service, and Duna TV, public Hungarian Television, will join the existing members. The new entries were approved by the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Prix Italia in February 2008.

The new Prix Italia Website, as one can see, by surfing the various sections, offers new opportunities of discussion and networking among International members, who will have the chance to feed and enhance the forum, exchange text and multimedia content, thus strengthening and giving life to the “Prix Italia Community”
