Special Prizes 2008

  • In 2008 the Prix Italia will also award a prize offered by the President of the Italian Republic. This prestigious award, a silver cup, will be awarded to a television programme that pays particular attention to the lives and cultural realities of women in all parts of the world.

  • The Special Prize on the theme “Communication for Life - Programmes that bring about social change” is dedicated to television programmes (documentaries, docu-dramas, dramas), dealing with economic, social, political and cultural realities in emergency situations (such as war, famine, natural catastrophes, ethnic-religious intolerance, repression etc.) in a perspective of sustainable development. Each member organisation of the Prix Italia may send a maximum of three programmes.

  • A Special Prize “Creativity in High Definition” dedicated to television programmes in high definition is being established. This special prize is not about the technological recourse of high definition, but the use of how this technology is employed to improve the quality of the television offer. Each member organisation is invited to participate by submitting only one programme.

  • SIGNIS, The World Catholic Association for Communication (http://www.signis.net), will award the Signis Special Prize. The Association came into being in November 2001, with the merger of Unda (the International Catholic Association for Radio and Television) and OCIC (International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audio-visual). SIGNIS presently unites member associations from 140. In 2007 the SIGNIS jury gave its award to THE HEALING produced by DR-Denmark, directed by Mikkel Clausen and Thomas Roger Henrichsen.
